Reports in today’s press are claiming that we are leading the race to sign Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen ahead of the gooners and Newcastle. De Telegraaf reports that the Belgian’s agent Mustapha Nakhil has confirmed talks have started over an 8.5m Euro deal.

I’ve seen him play plenty of times for Ajax and is the mould of centre back we have longed for. He has great composure on the ball and is a real modern day ball playing defender. Not to mention he should be lifting the Eredivisie title for Ajax, 6 points clear and 2 games to go.

OK, great, now in recent days, we have seen Chelski pip us to one major summer signing in fleet footed German winger Marko Marin who we all remember from Werder Bremen last season. He’s a great signing at an absolute steal of £7m. Marin admitted Spurs’ interested but said Chelski were    “A better fit” whatever that concerns. We nearly signed him in January and have been strongly linked ever since his cameos against us in our Champions League campaign.

Wenger isn’t looking at flights to Cannes just yet either. Lukasz Podolski completed his move to the Emirates this week for around £10m. Another proven International already heading to London but to our rivals……

I could ramble on all day about how I feel the F.A have tried crippling Redknapp and Spurs and to what effect they have ruined what should have been our best ever season. I am a firm believer that if none of this nonsense came up about Arry and England, then our scintillating, early season form would have blossomed further and 3rd place would have been wrapped up already. Therefore, we too could have started transfer business early and wrap up deals for top talent.

Man United went out last summer and bought quality early in Young, Jones and De Gea and signalled their early intent. Our two London rivals have followed suit and I hope we start stamping our authority now that Redknapp looks to be staying after Woy’s appointment.

Yet again though, we sit there in the “what if” position when in reality we should be home and dry with 3 games left of insignificance.

Nevertheless, 3 massive games now, bring on Bolton COYS !

News Just in that Kaboul is ruled out with no news that King will play (expected to nevertheless). However, will this mean Spurs could line up with Nelsen and Gallas ?

I say this with regret but Ledders wasn’t a shadow of his former self against Norwich and was bullied off the pitch by Grant Holt. Now in my opinion, Holt and Didier Drogba are at opposite ends of the strikers spectrum not to mention a certain rejuvenated Fernando Torres. I dread to think that if King is risked and does partner Nelsen, it could be a recipe for disaster.

My heart says we should go with King and Gallas but with both struggling for fitness it may mean we have to start our only other fit Centre back in Kiwi Ryan Nelsen instead of starting the crocked pairing of ledders and Willy.

However, the cups all about romance right? in which case a late Gallas winner from a corner (from which we never score from) would be wonderful. COYS !

Twenty-Four hours later, the dust has settled and from my view, I can see a clear road to Wembley after being drawn at home to Bolton in the quarter final of the FA cup, providing we see off Stevenage….
It was a lacklustre performance from us and nothing short of expectation at the Lamex stadium in Hertfordshire. An unfamiliar line-up was followed by a typical Tottenham display against lowly opposition in a game where we barely created a chance.
However, no panic buttons were pushed as the final whistle blew on a rare sun-soaked February afternoon. We were still in the draw for the last sixteen and providing we avoided away trips to Stamford Bridge or Anfield I was confident that 2012 could well be our year of domestic cup success. A home tie against Bolton Wanderers awaits the winner of our replay with Stevenage, perfect.
I can almost smell the print from the over-sized and over priced FA cup final match day programme and I don’t think many would bet against us lifting the trophy for the first time since the year of my birth.
It is a competition that a minority of managers have snarled at in recent years, much to my disgust. The irony is that for managers such as “I did not see it” a lack of silverware is costing them jobs as inevitably that is what football fans pay hard earned wage to go and witness.
Ultimately, with the prospect of FA cup glory and a top four finish looking very promising, the stage is set for ‘Arry’ to go and manage England with his reputation at Spurs untarnished. However, he should stay with us regardless…
Note: I have the feeling that if we win at Emirates on Sunday which we can, Wenger’s excuses will not be enough to save his deteriorating position and how fantastic would that be? Gooners in turmoil and a 13 point gap between us. Just a thought….
To dare is to do.

3-2 the final result and I have never in twenty years felt so gutted following a game of football. It seems that no matter how far we have progressed under Redknapp, no matter how different this Spurs side is supposed to be to teams of recent years, our fate is pre-meditated. Now I am no pessimist, in fact I am similar to most of us THFC followers who always expect that little bit more of the side on match day, despite how highly the odds are stacked against us. For example, Instead of aiming for a point, I’d argue that three’s the target regardless of premier league opposition. However, prior to kick off yesterday, I spent all of my ‘genuine’ optimism saved up over the years on this one, season defining game. “To Dare is To Do” right?
The line-up looked faultless in my opinion and one I’d been crying out for at the lane for a while, despite our impressive form. Pace up top for once, an abundance of flair and the enlightening pairing of King and Kaboul, I couldn’t complain.
In all seriousness and despite the early promise the week had served up, my gut feeling worked its way into proceedings the longer the game went on as it tends to do during every huge Spurs fixture. It all seemed too good to be true. All week I had heard positivity from the Tottenham camp with a genuine belief, of which I shared, that we could go and nick all three points at the Etihad. It seemed an unusual amount of people fancied us to cause an upset and really shake up the title race.
2-2 after being 2-0 down and 25 minutes left on the clock, vivid memories of the Emirates last season came flooding in, and I can’t begin to explain the anxiety that rushed through me as time ticked on. DEFOE !!! It wasn’t to be our day and I honestly believe that given a paper and pen after wasting that monumental chance, I could have written the finale. Every Spur knew what would follow. The looks on the player’s faces at full time painted the picture, we’d given everything and yet again, despite the controversy, didn’t get what we deserved.
“This would only happen to us”. If I had a pound for every person that said this today I’d be a rather wealthy man. Nevertheless despite the 8 point gap now, I’d love to see us continue to show the ambition that see us branded “contenders” for the rest of the season. In my eyes, which haven’t seen much glory of the cups at WHL, this chapter is far from over with 16 games left to play.
“To Dare is To Do” right?
