Champions League final on Saturday, Chelsea v Bayern Munich, you all know the score, we need Bayern to win or we are consigned to another season of Europa League football which quite honestly needs to be binned by UEFA in my opinion. What do we do in this case? like the final the Arsenal were in when we all turned to Barcelona fans for the night this time we will all be biting our nails as we watch a Champions League final we might have otherwise not been too fussed about.

Tottenham and Bayern will unite for just one night only and after it’s all over we will know our destiny.

Low & behold….

It’s been no secret that Tottenham have been held back in recent seasons by the lack of quality when it comes to converting chances, we have been linked with pretty much every striker there is in the past 2 or 3 years but there was one striker that Harry was chasing last summer but the price tag was too high but in a cruel twist of fate Spurs could now get their man at only a fraction of the price.

Following Villarreal’s shock relegation from La Liga this weekend striker Giuseppe Rossi will be surely looking to leave the club, valued at around £30m last summer then an injury which ruled him out for the rest of the season saw Villareal plummet in the league and will now have to cash in on some of their top players for a fraction of the price they are worth.

Rossi scored 32 goals in 56 appearances in all competitions last season. An anterior cruciate ligament injury on Rossi’s right knee in October ruled him out for the rest of the season and probably cost Villarreal their La Liga status. Harry will weigh up his options in the summer as he looks to add quality to Spurs and surely he will monitor the Rossi situation.

Martin Jol will make his first return to WHL to a warm recpection from the Tottenham fans, no manager has warmed the hearts of our fans like Martin. Clint Dempsey will be missing which is a big boost to our hopes of winning.

Starting XI

Tottenham

One change from Villa, Jake Livermore in for Danny Rose, expecting Gareth Bale to start left-back in 4-2-3-1 system.

Friedel; Walker, Gallas, Kaboul, Bale; Livermore, Sandro; Lennon, van der Vaart, Modric; Adebayor.

Development players Adam Smith and Harry Kane on the bench today. SUBS – Cudicini, Nelsen, Smith, Giovani, Defoe, Kane, Saha.

Never before has so much rested on one afternoon’s worth of football for us Spurs fans, win and we finish in the top 4 and it West Brom do us a favour it could even be top 3.

Last time we finished 4th it was a bit more unexpected and our players had never had a taste of Champions League football before and after missing out last year there’s only so long we can starve our top players hunger for a return to the big time. We had 3rd in the bag and we threw it away as soon as Harry was linked to the England job but I still have faith we can finish up 3rd, West Brom are no mugs and will be looking to give Roy a good send off.

If we finish 4th then our most important match this season will be one that doesn’t even include Spurs, it will be the Champions League final. If Chelsea fail and we gain entry to the Champions League and get past the qualifying round then we will likely hold on to our top players but failure to give our top stars Champions League football again may mean we have to admit defeat and let them go and start a rebuilding process. Our team could be completely different next year should we fail.

A lot rests on Sunday but even then we may still have to wait but isn’t it great for once to have something to play for on the final day of the season.

Over the past couple of weeks since he scored that screamer of a freekick against Blackburn I have seen Kyle Walker do 2 or 3 interviews and I have to say he comes across as pleasant lad.

Not really much point to this but just thought I’d comment on the way that Kyle has conducted himself in interviews, very humble and very gracious and he seems to have his feet firmly on the ground and I like to see that, of course give it another year or two and he will probably start ranting like Benny about leaving for a bigger club.

Walker just signed a new 5 year deal, still has a bit to learn and is hoping for a place on the plane to Euro 2012 and well worthy of that place I have to say, his naivety has shown at times during the season but he is young and still learning the game, was a bit surprised he wont PFA Young Player Of The Year but cuffed for him none the less.

Anyone else seen any of his interviews and thought what a thoroughly nice chap he seems?

Back in 2007 Martin Jol departed Tottenham, a club he loved and adored by the fans, he was on the brink of greatness with Spurs but interference from higher up turned things sour and Jol was let go by the club he had fallen in love with and replaced by Juande Ramos.

Many felt for MJ and the way his sacking was handled, it was leagued before a Europa game that he was going to be dismissed after the game and the adoring fans sang their hearts out for the big man in his final game.

5 years on and Martin will make his first return to White Hart Lane as the Fulham manager, a win for us and we will finish in the top 4, it could be 3rd if WBA can nick something from Arsenal at The Hawthorns, the question is when Jol makes his emotional return and to hopefully a great reception, how will he approach the match?

Martin could treat it like every other game and just play how they always play which would be the professional way. There is the possibility that his human emotions could kick in but would that favour us or not. Will MJ look to seek revenge on Daniel Levy for his harsh treatment and end Spurs CL hopes or will his love for the club still run strong and there will be a part of him that wants to see the club and fans that once chanted his name succeed.

You can ask any Spurs fan and they will tell you they still love Martin Jol but next week I guess we will find out if Martin Jol still loves us.

Arsenal 3-3 Norwich and it’s advantage Spurs but if it wasn’t for a Spurs player on loan at Norwich it might have been a different story.

The score was 3-3 and in the dying minutes the ball was played across the box as Robin van Persie looked to have an easy tap in but then a little shove from Kyle Naughton saw van Persie take a fall and miss his opportunity which now give the advantage to Tottenham for the race for 3rd.

An away game at Villa tomorrow and if the boys ever needed a bigger incentive to safe their blushes from throwing away 3rd place then this is it. We now have a chance to finish 3rd and watch Arsenal sweat on the CL final instead of us, a dream scenario for Spurs fans but Villa won’t give us an easy ride as they fight to retain their Premier League status.

I must admit I was watching the Arsenal game and I was bricking it in the final 5 mins and have never felt so much relief at a final whistle. The ref bottled it on a few penalty decisions but the refs bottle was our saving grace in the final minutes. Thank you Kyle Naughton.

Latest News coming out of the club is that Scotty Parker is fit and back in contention for a place in the team for Sunday’s clash against Aston Villa but after the last 2 matches which have seen us pick up 2 wins against Blackburn and Bolton with Sandro doing the Parker role extremely well in midfield is there room for Scotty? A win against Villa would leave us all but there in the race for 4th, a home match against Fulham in our last game would leave any sports betting man leaning in our favour and it would even be a real possibility that we could snatch 3rd.

My belief is don’t tinker if you don’t have to, Scotty was immense for the first half of the season then went off the boil, Sandro has played the last 2 games and has been outstanding so he rightly deserves to keep his place and in my opinion you shouldn’t play them both in the same team.

2 good performances have put us right back in there, the only edge I think Parker has is consistency as Sandro has had some games where he has been non-existent, it’s a headache for Harry but my heart would tell me to stick with Sandro, he deserves to keep his place and Parker could very well be rusty. Go in to Sunday’s match and keep the same team that beat Bolton if possible would be the way to go.

Thoughts?
