Spotted this in yesterday’s Daily Mirror and it might not be too far wide of the mark. AVB has already captured Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson who spent last season with Brendan Rodgers at Swansea but turned down the chance to link up with him again at Liverpool and join Tottenham instead.
Alvaro Pereira (Porto)
Villas Boas tried and failed to sign him from Porto for Chelsea last summer – even though he had Ashley Cole at his disposal. Will try again this time around for the 26-year-old who can play left-back or left-midfield.
Exciting young Brazilian midfielder who is finally available following the conclusion of legal wranglings between Internacional and Sao Paulo. Still only 20 but highly-rated and would go some way to easing any frustration among fans at the potential loss of Luka Modric.
Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid)
AVB is a big fan of the 24 year old striker. Higuain hit 26 goals for the Spanish giants last season – an impressive return considering he lost his place in the starting eleven to Karim Benzema.
Spurs could turn to Higuain as a makeweight in a deal which would see Luka Modric going to Madrid after midfielder Nuri Sahin insisted he would not be up for a move to White Hart Lane.
Higuain is another player that AVB tried and failed to sign during his time at Chelsea. The lack of Champions League football at Spurs could hinder the north Londoners’ chances of a coup, however.
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea)
A more realistic target for AVB. Sturridge is 22, he has just two years left on his contract and no new Chelsea deal appears in sight for the talented striker.
Doesn’t like playing on the right as he did to such stunning effect during the first half of last season. Could realise his towering potential with regular first-team action at centre-forward for Spurs.
Hugo Lloris (Lyon)
The 25-year-old France and Lyon keeper and Spurs do need a new keeper with 40-year-old Brad Friedel their current custodian. Lloris is hugely talented but Arsenal are also very keen.
Loic Remy (Marseille)
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy likes him – which means he goes on the list. Remy hit 14 goals and six assists from 43 appearances in all competitions last season.
He helped his side to the last eight of the Champions League last term where they were beaten by finalists Bayern Munich.
Jan Vertonghen (Ajax)
The 25-year-old Belgian centre-half has already made it clear he wants to join Spurs. The north Londoners have already agreed a fee for him with his club Ajax.
But a wrangle over whether he is due 15 percent of the deal has held up the transfer. Should still be done however.
Gylfi Sigurdsson (Hoffenheim) (Completed)
Another player for whom the deal is virtually done. The 22 year-old midfielder provided goals and creativity during his loan spell at Swansea last season.
You will notice that Porto playmaker Moutinho hasn’t even made the list but is widely tipped to be the replacement for Luka Modric should the Tottenham midfielder depart White Hart Lane this summer for Real Madrid.
Spurs will be looking to offload a few more players which could see AVB with a transfer budget in excess of £100m, so you can expect a few changes at Tottenham over the summer period. Higuain would be a popular choice with the fans and so would Oscar but it makes a change to see us being linked with some top players or real prospects instead of washed up players on free transfers. There is every possibility if Harry had stayed we would have ended up with a strike force of Heskey and Owen next season.
