Wow! What a weekend of football. With a record number of goals scored it seems we’ve also found another contributor to our goal tally too. Except we didn’t find him…he’s already with us. As if you couldn’t tell from the title, yes I’m talking about our Niko Kranjcar.
It was a delightful goal wasn’t it? Feinting to the right, making space for himself on the left and smashing in a 25 yard screamer. He made it look so easy, and we know he can do it. So why does Harry continue to overlook the Croat time after time, even with our squad depleted?
Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big Redknapp fan, but I just don’t get this one. Harry tells the media regularly about how Niko is such a fantastic professional, how triffic he is on the training field and how great his attitude is; and we all know how good he is on the pitch.
Last season Kranjcar was one of our best players and chipped in with 7 goals, which is a lot more than our strikers have achieved so far this season, albeit with still some way to go yet. His passing and flair are fantastic and although he isn’t the quickest player, he can read the game quite well, and is never short on determination.
After Palacios decided to charge into the box before VDV had even taken his penalty on Saturday, denying us a goal, his worth to the team seems to be diminishing with every passing game. He loses the ball more than he wins it. Why couldn’t Niko take the place of Palacios? I know they are completely different as players but if Wilson is going to fail repeatedly to make a tackle and then lose the ball, surely we won’t be missing him anyway.
I just think we need to make room for Niko in our team, at least on a more regular basis. I think Pienaar had a decent game, but Kranjcar had more influence on the game in his short cameo than Pienaar did in his much longer stint. Given a choice between the 2, I would choose the Croat every time. I would love to see Harry play Kranjcar against Sunderland on Saturday. If he has a bad game, Harry will at least have an excuse for keeping him on the bench for another couple of games. But with all Niko’s built up frustration I would imagine he would have plenty to prove, if given the chance.

All down to Niko really…..playing well, I mean.
He does play well though. He just is not given the chances. When he does play he’s great
Don’t be absurd Barry,I love the socks off Niko but his form has been poor this term and he was obviously unfit and overweight against W.Brom hence why he had a shocker. People should really take the blinkers off when commenting about a player they like cos it does the player no favours imho.
Just read an interview with Niko and he said he accepts and understands the situation but if he doesn’t play more often he will considering a move in the summer. Would be a shame wouldn’t it? He scored 5 goals in three games in the international team and thinks he is at his best this year.
quote: “If the minutes don’t come, the situation doesn’t change, then we will see what will happen in the summer.”
nikos a top player.but what happens when everyones fit?im not sure niko fits in anyones first team.midfield of bale modders hudd and lennon.you would never drop bale or modders and niko doesnt like playing on the right so however good a player he is,what can you do?you drop bale and we lose, harrys made a mistake, dont play niko and we lose, harrys made a mistake.all about winning and unfort for niko, bales just better
cant see him as a starter but we should definitely rotate and get him involved more, even as a sub. If Bale needs a rest play niko, if ekkoto needs a rest put bale back there and play niko, but harry is very set in his ways. Same applies with crouch/defoe and the Pav situation
Nikos a fantastic player, I cant c him gettin into first team ahead of bale, modric etc but he shud be our first backup. not pienaar
Davyid I agree conpletely with u. I wish Krankjar could play more too. He’s a brilliant player and although his not as good as bale I would love to c mor of him. He deserves to play more, he never moans and always plays well when he comes on
Good article! I rele like niko and its a shame to see him sitting on the bench. Personally i wouldnt mind seeing him as a second striker, he seems to have a good shot on him and can score for fun at international level!
I think Niko should be given a run. Has anyone seen how both Niko and Modders fit into their national team?. It could work, they already have a degree of understanding from their international outings. Formation could perhaps be:
Gomes
Charlie Daws Gallas BAE
Pienaar/Jenas
Lennon Bale
Modders Niko
VDV
