According to Spurs forums and this morning’s Twitter users, Spurs captain Ledley King is hanging up his boots and moving into a coaching role within the club. The news won’t come as a surprise to many of us if it’s true plenty of sources saying it is and an announcement will be made in due course.
Ledley was one of the rare players to come through the Spurs youth academy and if he wasn’t plagued with injuries could have gone on to great things but maybe not as a Spurs player as someone surely would have paid big big money for him.
Many great players like Thierry Henry rated King as the best defender they ever played against. Say the news is true and Ledley announces his retirement and moves into a coaching role within the club will we be strong enough at the back without him? Gallas looks finished at the club which leaves Vertonghen, Daws, Kaboul, Bassong (who will be off probably) and youngster Caulker who may have a big part to play next season.
Ledley was definitely one of the true greats at our club and adored by every fan, he didn’t take no shit when out in nightclubs either. Top player, top man, personally I’d like him to play one more year but maybe I am just being selfish and should let him retire gracefully and not tarnish his name.
