In january Harry said that Niko is top player but he likes to play on the left and on the left the first choice is Bale as he has an amazing year. He stated that Niko understands that but he want’s to play, therefore they are willing to let him go. They accepted the bid from Werder Bremen but Niko refused their offer.

Just recently Harry said something quite different from his statement in January:

I could always stick Niko somewhere else if Gareth was fit because Niko deserves his place in the team.”

So what happened? Two goals in two games and suddenly Harry has a different perspective? Well quite honestly I am happy about what he said, but still worried when it comes to Harry’s blindness sometimes. As a manager he should have seen Niko’s potential before these two performances. How come that he plays different players only when his hand is forced by injuries? I respect the man and love what he has done for the club but I would also appreciate if he would admit that we are all human and we all can make mistakes. I think that one mistake is that he didn’t gave Niko a chance from the moment Bale was injured. It took a while until Niko got on the pitch and it was actually in the last 20 minutes and it’s possible that Harry wouldn’t have done that if Spurs would have had a lead but it was a draw and Harry went for the win. Niko scored a winning goal and maybe that earned him his spot for the next game. He scored another shocker and now suddenly Harry has a different attitude.

I think Harry’s temper could actually bring good for Spurs this time. He seems to have had enough with the drouth of goals from the strikers and might give Niko a chance in a more attacking position. Maybe he is tired of just waiting for those goals and is ready to approach things different from now on, maybe something like If you work hard and show results than you certainly deserve your spot in the team. Yes it’s possible that Niko won’t bring anything special for the team in the next 3 matches if he plays, and yes it’s possible that Defoe might start scoring like crazy, because that’s football and anything can happen BUT I think it’s just honest to give the players what they deserve for their work and I am pleased to hear that Niko Kranjcar can still get his place in the team even when Bale will be around. Still we have to wait and see because we all know Harry and his statements, but for me as a big fan of Niko I am certainly happy to hear this from the manager that almost sold him in january.

  1. Deserves a place is more than just about scoring goals. Maybe he worked harder, ran a bit more and helped out defensively. Certainly reading one of the Sunderland blogs, they claimed he did all of this.

  2. i think it is a great example of Harry’s man management. when all of our midfielders are fit, including huddlestone, then kranjcar just is not first choice, Kranjcar has been making noises about moving for a while luckily for us he didn’t.

When harry finally puts him in the team he is so hungry to perform and do well that he plays out of his skin. I am tipping Niko to go on a similar kind of purple streak just as Pav did last season when he got into the team

  3. Bale got his chance cos of bae injury and kranjcar cos of bales injury. Harry hasnt got a clue tbh. Im gutted that bale hasnt made san siro but why cant harry just come out and tell us how it is instead of playing mindgames over bale. He has been out for 3weeks now it must be more than just a ‘tweek’. Lets hope niko does the business. I hope we play high tempo and close them down quickly and aggressively.

    • Krankjcar didn’t get his chancwe because of Bales injury – he got his chance when HARRY bought him… You’re saying he hasn’t got a clue by not playing him, but it was Harry that bought him here in the first place – actually it was harry that bought him to England. Actually it’s looking increasingly likely that harry has got loads of clues about what he’s doing and it’ also looks like it’s working. Without Bale we’re still winning … so to say Harry’s been lucky with Bale getting into the team is irrelevant… because even without that luck he’s doing something right… unless you’re suggesting everything good he does is luck?

      • Kranjcar wouldnt be in the team, not left midfield anyway, if bale wasnt injured at the mo!

  4. Hello noone.I’m sure I remember Harry commenting on Niko when he first joined Tottenham (Niko,) saying He can play most positions left wing, midfield, behind the striker or even as a forward himself.

As you say he’s top class and perhaps it’s time to give him a go up front or even have Rafael as striker and Niko behind him,as we seem a little unsure at the momment up top.

  5. Spurs have most definitely moved on again under Redknapp, perhaps his plain talking without complicated tactics and a clipboard is doing the trick however, I have to say that he is perhaps a lucky manager as opposed to a good one. He was about to farm out Bale then BAE got injured, the rest is history, Pav coming in last year through desperation, the rest again is history, Niko being shown the door very recently, even had an offer for him accepted despite Redknapp telling everyone that Niko is a top top player. Niko declined the offer and stayed, que Bale injured, Niko given a run in the side and just look at what is currently happening. All we need right now is for Defoe to wake up and score some goals and can Crouch please chip in as well, perhaps he is waiting for the City game to score the winner just like last year. After all, football is a funny game isnt it and wasnt it Napoleon who famously said that he would rather have a lucky general than a good one.

  6. Whatever the combination chosen, we need them to be brisk & alert. Constant marking & intelligent tackles on their strikeforce ( without sustaining red cards though). We do need the athlete touch to stop AC’s strikers.Their passes to be intelligently intercepted.

  7. HARRY HAS MORE NEGATIVES THAN POSITIVES IN HIS MANAGEMENT STYLE…..JUST LOOK AT HIS RECORD NOT HIS PERSONALI sIMPLES!!!! TOP MANAGERS are spoken of in top circles regarding top events…simples! nice guy doing a ‘good’ job. If we require soemthing more than this, then soemone else will have to deliver it to the fans.

Pav Bale and Eider and Kranjcar breathed the vitally chrged new blood in to our delicate final stages of,last year, with inarguably some brilliant performances to boot. Harry is an old skool operator, who prefers sticking to convention, no matter how meager its rewards. Hopefully his ego will make way for self awareness and it is at this point, that he can truly fill both his and our true potential.

  8. I reckon that when Bale is back in contention, he should slot in at LB. Having Niko as LW is going to give BAE a well deserved rest and a chance to watch us play. That scenario will give Bale the chances to overlap and ghost into dangerous areas and support attacks rather than be the one we all look for to create. I just hope that Hudd can come back soon and be hungry for action as he will elevate the level of play for sure! I’m looking forward to us chasing 3rd place and hoping that Citeh’s wheels come off as the pressure intensifies. Citeh were serious title contenders 2 weeks ago and now (next Tuesday night) could be sat behind 3rd placed Spurs level on games played. It’s looking great! The boys will produce a gritty performance tomorrow, I am sure! The Young Boys, Bremen and Inter games have taught them to keep it tight early and late, if they have taken that on then expect a defoe hatrick!!!!!! COYS!!!

  9. Bale coming in last year has nothing to do with BAE’s injury. Bale was ALWAYS going to get a run of games at the start of 2010. BAE was due to go to africa cup of nations, Harry knew this well in advance and with Bale as the only other left back in the squad, talk of letting him go in Jan was absolute rubbish.

How our fellow fans can continue to question Harry is beyond me, the man has brought us so much success in a very short period of time. We are now challenging at the top of the table, in the champions league and have a squad full of quality. Three things which I have never seen prior to this in my lifetime.

I guess the people that question him are the same ones that shout ironic cheers to Gomes, Wilson and JJ when they do things well. Three players who give 100% for spurs everytime and undoubtedly benefit from our support. Do not knock our confidence players, support them.

I for one have never been so happy as a spurs fan, its a great time for us – lets not spoil it by raising expectation and the pressure on ourselves. We are 4th and still in the Champions league. Lets back Harry, back every one of our players, and enjoy life. Its all GOOD.

  10. I don’t know how often you frequent the Lane Zag but the 3 players you mention deserve a bit of stick sometimes if only to gee them up. Sarge in particular was so bad recently his pass completion rate had a minus in front of it. JJ has always taken the brunt of the stick, unfairly at times but you pays your money and takes your chance innit?

Gomes has been shakey at times but is still as popular as ever and has an open ended invitation with all our wives…..;-)
