3-2 the final result and I have never in twenty years felt so gutted following a game of football. It seems that no matter how far we have progressed under Redknapp, no matter how different this Spurs side is supposed to be to teams of recent years, our fate is pre-meditated. Now I am no pessimist, in fact I am similar to most of us THFC followers who always expect that little bit more of the side on match day, despite how highly the odds are stacked against us. For example, Instead of aiming for a point, I’d argue that three’s the target regardless of premier league opposition. However, prior to kick off yesterday, I spent all of my ‘genuine’ optimism saved up over the years on this one, season defining game. “To Dare is To Do” right?
The line-up looked faultless in my opinion and one I’d been crying out for at the lane for a while, despite our impressive form. Pace up top for once, an abundance of flair and the enlightening pairing of King and Kaboul, I couldn’t complain.
In all seriousness and despite the early promise the week had served up, my gut feeling worked its way into proceedings the longer the game went on as it tends to do during every huge Spurs fixture. It all seemed too good to be true. All week I had heard positivity from the Tottenham camp with a genuine belief, of which I shared, that we could go and nick all three points at the Etihad. It seemed an unusual amount of people fancied us to cause an upset and really shake up the title race.
2-2 after being 2-0 down and 25 minutes left on the clock, vivid memories of the Emirates last season came flooding in, and I can’t begin to explain the anxiety that rushed through me as time ticked on. DEFOE !!! It wasn’t to be our day and I honestly believe that given a paper and pen after wasting that monumental chance, I could have written the finale. Every Spur knew what would follow. The looks on the player’s faces at full time painted the picture, we’d given everything and yet again, despite the controversy, didn’t get what we deserved.
“This would only happen to us”. If I had a pound for every person that said this today I’d be a rather wealthy man. Nevertheless despite the 8 point gap now, I’d love to see us continue to show the ambition that see us branded “contenders” for the rest of the season. In my eyes, which haven’t seen much glory of the cups at WHL, this chapter is far from over with 16 games left to play.
“To Dare is To Do” right?

Klinsmann Emerges As Contender To The Throne
My problem really is not that Lescott and Mario should have been sent off but the abysmal defending from our back 4. The 2 goals were very soft and the lunge from Ledley with a min of stoppage time left was uncharecteristic. Assou-Ekotto could have let the ball run out of play for a spurs throw but instead belts it up to defoe who is sandwiched between 2 defenders, play breaks down and within seconds City get a penalty. Poor decision making and defending, the signs of which have been there all season. Cannot be challenging for title being so frail at the back.
What now makes it worse is Balotelli has now been charged. Should not have been on the pitch! Ah well, onwards and upwards!
I am so proud of the team. We scored some good goals, gave a good account of ourselves and at least our players can go in with the heads held high unlike City who are yet again in the news for all the wrong reasons. We are still only 8 points off the summit and the season is a long one but for me 3rd and the FA Cup would be our best season ever. I think we are the third best team in the country but to become 2nd or 1st we need some more fire power upfront- Defoe (he was excellent yesterday and should start against Wigan- thats 5 goals in 5 starts for him) and Adebayor are just not enough to fire us to the title. We need a player like Higuain, Soldado etc to add to JD and Ade to to give the team another option. We have really good games coming up against Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal- we won all those fixtures last season, there is no reason why we cannot do it again but first we need to concentrate on smashing Watford to pieces, it would help take the silly lost out of our systems. The FA Cup is a great opportunity for us to win something and having won it a few times it is due back at the Lane!COYS!
we will make CL football this year – Aresenal is 10 points behind and lack the belief needed to make the top 4 – so unless we collapse we should get 3rd or 4th.
I agree that we need to start scoring more goals – the best way to do that is Ade & Defore up front together for a couple of games, lets start areally attacking. Has VDV really deserved to start every game these past few weeks ? – he is not scoring, so lets give Defoe a run. If he sucks then he will deserve the critisism. A few games with 3 or 4 goals would go a long way to helpging us and the players to continue the optimism. Unfortunately, Harry seems nervous of telling VDV to have a seat – so play him in the FA cup tie and rest him for the next 2 or 3 leagues games.
i agree totally, well written and straight to the point
well written
