Rumours are already starting to take shape regarding the January sales and we’re only just recently having left behind the summer extravaganzas. So with one such transfer speculation specifically being banded around that being the previously covered departure of one Jermaine Defoe to Juventus.I thought that now appeared to be as good a time as any to discuss what seems to most Tottenham fans as the urgent need to find the perfect striker one that will fit around the much talked about five man midfield and although this mysterious fellow is as yet reluctant to make himself  known to Mr Redknapp and Levy respectively,I feel we must prepare ourselves to lose one or two of our forwards to make way for this superman the question is who?

Shall we then begin with the point of the rumour and take a quick look at Jermain Defoe. What can you say about this little fellow when he’s on form he probably comes close to being one of the most lethal strikers in the Premiership 92 goals for Spurs in two stays and an ever present threat to most if not all defences.

He loves to play on the shoulder of the last defender, always looking for those channels in which to run to get a shot off at goal something which tends to rile a lot of Tottenham fans as he is often criticised for not taking the better option when another player might be in a more dangerous position.A possible starter for the new vacancy? perhaps as his performance in a 4,4,1,1 for Capello’s England against Bulgaria did him the world of good.

Then there is Peter Crouch often much ridiculed for his physique by both home and away supporters alike he also seems to take a lot of flak for seemly being the sole reason for that long ball demon which often raises it’s head when Peter is on the field, although when playing for England the malevolent force is not often seen and with 16 goals to his name in the lilly white not forgetting of course that finest of hat tricks against Young Boys of Bern in our Champions League taster he appears to have the knack of scoring important goals for both club and country.

Now with Crouches height and close ball control ability he should be perfect for the lone front man role and perhaps with a little more time playing in that position he might grow into it,unfortunately time is the one thing that most mangers lack so would Harry be prepared to persevere with such an experiment? I feel we may never find out.

Now we turn our attention to the enigma that is Roman Pavlyuchenko the online dictionary defines the use of enigma as.”A person of puzzling or contradictory character:To me he has always been an enigma, one minute completely insensitive, the next moved to tears”.

Well to begin with let me remove the comparison toward his personality as I neither know the man well enough to comment nor would I should I be around him, although what I do believe to be similar to the definition is his style of play.On his day there is no one player to touch him you could quite easily compare him with Torres unfortunately however there seems no consistency in his play and his 25 goals in 62 appearances seems to emulate this otherwise he would be perfect for the lone front man.

Next up is Robbie Keane and such a player I have never known that divided opinion amongst a set of fans, although to discuss his ability for this position we must for the time being at least leave to one side our personal likes or dislikes of this Irishman.

Now despite his impressive tally of 121 goals in 293 appearances I feel he is the least likely of the four to be able to take on the mantle of lone front man as he loves to come deep linking the midfield to the attack this though does not mean that he should either leave of his own accord or be sold as I hold this man in high regard. His technical ability is wonderful as is his reading of the game and I only hope that Harry can find some way of playing him in our team, whether that means adapting him into more of a Modric style midfielder I don’t know.

So there we have it and no doubt this has raised more questions than answers but whatever you believe it’s up for discussion.SO WHO STAYS YOU DECIDE.

  1. Players, me lad. Players,as in ‘can kick a ball in more than one direction,’.

  2. Most of these “stories” being branded about are utter shite talk I wouldn’t give them the steam of my piss to be honest. How about we forget about the transfer window after all it is closed and worry about it again in January. What we have at the moment is what we have and you rarely get the “best” players in January anyways so getting someone we all want wont realistically happen till the summer, no point in getting someone in who isn’t an improvement on what we got. Also, suggesting we get rid of Keane and replace him with booby Zamora is quite frankly funny that is a silly suggestion no offence. Get behind the squad and team and leave the worrying about a new striker to the management NEXT SUMMER.

    COYS

  3. Keane to go as in “he is past it”. He has never been the same player since he went to Scroungerpool. His time in the SPL was playing in a third rate league. Personally, though I am dissapointed about his trip to the land of scroungers, especially as it coincided with our betrayal by Berbatov, I still have good memories of him prior to that. Personally, I hope Celtic stumps up the cash, so he can pretend he still has what it takes, banging in goals against the third-raters.

Crouch could never play the sole front man role as he is too ponderous.

  4. As much as I hate to admit it, Keane doesn’t look to be regaining his old (or even Celtic) form any time soon… sadly. If he is to leave, I would bring in Huntelaar. The reason I choose the Hunt is because his value has probably dropped significantly and he and Van Der Vaart have experience playing together for club (Real Madrid) and country (Holland). Can you say “Dutch pannekoeken”?

  5. No but I think we safely Schalke Huntelaar off our list.

  6. I think Adriano is woth getting in on trial. Harry has got the reputation of getting the best out of players like him. Last i heard he was available on a free transfer anyone know what the situation with him is now.

  7. Schalke Huntelaar off, I’d like to laugh but I’d have preferred him here now over Pav, even if they’re almost the same.

  8. Eh, Spence mate? Adriano joined Roma this summer on a four-year deal, or was it three? Something like that.

  9. i think keane will leave in the next transfer window and so will pavlyuchenko id like to see huntelaar at spurs aswell but hes already has a new club, shall spurs sell ceouch or keep him?????

  10. Defoe is nothing without the ball at his feet in the box. Crouch is nothing without a high ball hoofed from Dawson. When they play together, defending against them is too easy as it is essentially “long ball to big man to knock down to small man” – in the Champions League that’s laughable. Keep Keane, Pavlyuchenko and bring in Huntelaar and A.N. Other………let Defoe off to Juve where he will score tons of goals becuase they will give him the ball in the box at his feet. Spurs are not yet a team that can afford to carry a striker for 90 mins, who isn’t prepared to work, track back, hassle defenders and battle against the “bring the bus” teams. That’s what you get from Defoe.
