Reports in today’s press are claiming that we are leading the race to sign Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen ahead of the gooners and Newcastle. De Telegraaf reports that the Belgian’s agent Mustapha Nakhil has confirmed talks have started over an 8.5m Euro deal.
I’ve seen him play plenty of times for Ajax and is the mould of centre back we have longed for. He has great composure on the ball and is a real modern day ball playing defender. Not to mention he should be lifting the Eredivisie title for Ajax, 6 points clear and 2 games to go.
OK, great, now in recent days, we have seen Chelski pip us to one major summer signing in fleet footed German winger Marko Marin who we all remember from Werder Bremen last season. He’s a great signing at an absolute steal of £7m. Marin admitted Spurs’ interested but said Chelski were “A better fit” whatever that concerns. We nearly signed him in January and have been strongly linked ever since his cameos against us in our Champions League campaign.
Wenger isn’t looking at flights to Cannes just yet either. Lukasz Podolski completed his move to the Emirates this week for around £10m. Another proven International already heading to London but to our rivals……
I could ramble on all day about how I feel the F.A have tried crippling Redknapp and Spurs and to what effect they have ruined what should have been our best ever season. I am a firm believer that if none of this nonsense came up about Arry and England, then our scintillating, early season form would have blossomed further and 3rd place would have been wrapped up already. Therefore, we too could have started transfer business early and wrap up deals for top talent.
Man United went out last summer and bought quality early in Young, Jones and De Gea and signalled their early intent. Our two London rivals have followed suit and I hope we start stamping our authority now that Redknapp looks to be staying after Woy’s appointment.
Yet again though, we sit there in the “what if” position when in reality we should be home and dry with 3 games left of insignificance.
Nevertheless, 3 massive games now, bring on Bolton COYS !
