It has been announced on Spanish TV that Fernando Llorente has informed Athletic Bilbao that he would like to leave the club this summer.
Llorente has been linked with a host of top clubs including Tottenham who are in desperate need of a striker, Could Tottenham afford him? Daniel Levy did put in a bid of £38m for Aguero 18 months ago but many feel that was more just a gesture to please the fans rather than real intent to sign a top striker.
Llorente was in the Spain squad that won the World Cup in the summer although rarely featured as Spain opted for Torres instead. Llorente scored 18 times in 32 appearances last season for Bilbao and with Adebayor digging his heels firmly in the ground surely Spurs would be foolish to not even make a bid for Llorente.
Llorente is now 27 and knows he needs to be playing for a big team in Europe to win silverware and maybe has he sights set on a club like Barcelona but he is a player we have been strongly linked with for the past year and it would be criminal to not go all-out to get this guy as these types of players don’t become available very often.
Time to spend the Berbatov money!
